Richard Wheatley "de luxe" Box

This is the most beautiful Richard Wheatley "de luxe" box that I have seen. The "blonde" cherry wood is absolutely superb with wonderful grain. A lucky web customer has this on the way to them. The plaque has been engraved. These boxes make wonderful gifts.

When we started fly boxes looked like this.

Back in 1860 when our founder started in business a fly box looked like this

It comprised of a cardboard box which had been covered in leather and had cork inserts. The box would have been fine until you dropped it in the river or you put one too many wet flies into it for storage. This one has joined our reference collection as an example of the type of thing that Richard Wheatley would have been making.

New item in our Reference Collection

New to our reference collection is a wooden framed fly wallet (or book as they were called by Richard Wheatley & Son) This wallet has xylonite plates with 10 clips in a comb on one side and 7 on the other. Made around 1910. It has 5 parchment pouches for gut casts and on the leather cover a small tool holder for scissors and disgorger and eye cleaner.  This one is badged for J. Ogden of Cheltenham. Richard Wheatley products have been made in the U.K. for over 150 years.

4th May

Thank you for the busiest "none Christmas" period since my last post. Monday is a bank holiday (public holiday) in the United Kingdom and the Post Office will be closed. We will therefore be posting all of the weekends orders on Tuesday. Sorry for any extra delay but nothing that I can do.
